The Hammer is the primary building tool in Valheim. It allows players to place structures, craft stations, furniture, and defensive pieces. The Hammer does not deal meaningful combat damage — its purpose is construction, repair, and dismantling.

🏗 What the Hammer Does

When equipped, the Hammer opens the build menu, allowing placement of:

• Crafting stations

It is also used to:

• Repair structures (no material cost)
• Dismantle pieces (refunds full materials)

Repair

• Click damaged structures to restore durability.
• Repairs cost nothing.
• Must be within range of the appropriate crafting station.

Dismantle

• Middle-click (default) to remove a structure.
• Returns 100% of materials.
• Useful for redesigning or relocating builds.

📏 Build Radius Rules

Most pieces require:

• A nearby Workbench
• Shelter for certain crafting stations
• Structural support (see Building)

Without a Workbench in range, most pieces cannot be placed.

• Carry a Hammer while exploring to place temporary Workbenches.
• Use dismantle instead of destroying structures to avoid material loss.
