Dungeons
Dungeons are instanced interior structures found across multiple biomes in Valheim. They contain valuable loot, key progression items, and dangerous enemies. Many crafting unlocks require materials found only within dungeons.

🧾 How Dungeons Work
- Entered through a fixed-world entrance.
- Interior loads as a separate instance.
- Often contain branching rooms and hidden chambers.
- Enemies respawn slowly (or not at all in some cases).
- Some contain boss-location Vegvisir stones.
Dungeons are critical to biome progression.
🗺 Dungeon Types by Biome
| Dungeon | Biome | Key Loot | Main Enemies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burial Chamber | Black Forest | Surtling Cores | Skeletons, Ghosts |
| Sunken Crypt | Swamp | Iron Scrap | Draugr, Blobs |
| Frost Cave | Mountains | Fenris materials | Ulv, Cultists |
| Infested Mine | Mistlands | Black Cores, Royal Jelly | Seekers, Ticks |
| Ashlands Fortress | Ashlands | Flametal-tier loot | Charred, Siege enemies |
Each biome’s dungeon supports that biome’s gear progression.
👹 Dungeon Combat Tips
- Bring correct damage types (see Damage Types).
- Use blunt weapons in early dungeons.
- Clear methodically — tight corridors are dangerous.
- Carry stamina-focused food.
- Bring a portal kit for safety.
Many dungeon deaths occur due to overconfidence.
🎁 Why Dungeons Matter
Dungeons provide:
- Progression materials (Surtling Cores, Iron Scrap, Black Cores)
- Boss location runes
- Rare crafting drops
- Sellable valuables
Skipping dungeon exploration will block progression.
🛠 Advanced Tips
- Mark cleared dungeons on your map.
- Fully explore side corridors.
- Clear spawners first.
- Build a temporary repair base outside the entrance.
Preparation turns dungeons from deadly traps into resource goldmines.
