Ores

From Valheim Wiki

Ores

Ores are raw mineral resources mined from the world in Valheim. They are smelted into metal bars and used to craft stronger weapons, armor, tools, and building components. Each biome introduces new ore types tied directly to progression.

⛏ How Ore Mining Works

  • Ores are mined using a Pickaxe.
  • Higher-tier ores require stronger pickaxes.
  • Ores are heavy and cannot pass through Portal.
  • Ore must be smelted before crafting.

Mining is stamina-intensive and often dangerous due to biome enemies.

🧱 Ore Types by Biome

Ore Biome Found In Required Pickaxe Tier Smelts Into
**Copper Ore** Black Forest Surface copper deposits Antler Pickaxe+ Copper
**Tin Ore** Black Forest Shorelines & riverbanks Antler Pickaxe+ Tin
**Muddy Scrap Pile** Swamp Sunken Crypts Bronze Pickaxe+ Iron
**Silver Ore** Mountains Buried veins (requires Wishbone) Iron Pickaxe+ Silver
**Blackmetal Scrap** Plains Dropped by Fulings N/A (loot drop) Blackmetal
**Flametal Ore** Ashlands Volcanic deposits High-tier pickaxe Flametal

Silver veins are hidden underground and detected using the Wishbone from Bonemass.

🔥 Smelting Process

Structure Function
Charcoal Kiln Produces coal from wood
Smelter Converts ore to metal bars
Blast Furnace Converts Blackmetal scrap

Coal is required to process ore into usable bars.

⚠ Mining Hazards

Each biome adds risk:

Mining often attracts nearby enemies.

🚢 Ore Logistics

Because ores cannot pass through portals:

  • Build coastal mining outposts.
  • Use Karve or Longship for transport.
  • Consider staging smelting operations near water.
  • Protect shipments during transport.

🛠 Strategy Tips

  • Always clear nearby enemies before mining.
  • Bring stamina-heavy food.
  • Mine entire copper nodes — much is buried underground.
  • Mark ore locations on your map.
  • Over-mine early; upgrades require large quantities.
