Frost Caves

From Valheim Wiki

Frost Caves

Frost Caves are dungeon structures found in the Mountains. They contain unique enemies, rare crafting materials, and components required for the Fenris Armor set.

🌍 Overview

Biome Mountains
Type Dungeon
Key Resources Fenris Hair, Red Jute, Cultist Trophy
Main Enemies Ulv, Cultist
Environmental Effect No Freezing (Indoor Area)

πŸ“ Location

Frost Caves spawn randomly within the Mountains biome.

They are typically:

  • Embedded into mountain cliffs
  • Located at mid to high elevation
  • Marked by stone arch entrances

They are not revealed by a key item and must be discovered through exploration.

πŸ‘Ή Enemies

Frost Caves contain biome-exclusive threats:

  • Ulv – Fast melee pack hunters
  • Cultist – Fire-based ranged attackers

Enemies often spawn in groups and guard loot chambers.

🎁 Loot & Resources

Frost Caves provide unique materials not found elsewhere:

Item Use
Fenris Hair Crafting Fenris Armor
Red Jute Decorative building materials
Cultist Trophy Decoration

Loot chests may also contain general valuables and crafting items.

πŸ›  Strategy Tips

  • Clear rooms methodically to avoid being overwhelmed.
  • Pull enemies into corridors to isolate them.
  • Use ranged weapons before entering open chambers.
  • Maintain stamina β€” cave combat is close-quarters.
  • Consider fire resistance if struggling with Cultist attacks.

Unlike the exterior Mountains, freezing does not apply inside caves.

πŸ›‘ Fenris Armor Progression

Frost Caves are required to craft the Fenris Armor set.

The armor:

  • Provides increased movement speed.
  • Focuses on mobility over heavy defense.
  • Is effective for agile combat builds.

Multiple cave runs are usually required to collect enough Fenris Hair.

⚠ Difficulty

Frost Caves are more dangerous than open Mountain terrain due to:

  • Confined combat areas.
  • Group enemy spawns.
  • Limited retreat options.

Preparation and controlled clearing are recommended.
