The Serpent is a large sea creature found in the Ocean. It attacks boats at night and during storms, making ocean travel one of the most dangerous activities in Valheim.

Creatures β€’ Ocean

🌍 Overview

Biome Ocean
Type Sea Monster
Health High
Tameable No
Drops Serpent Meat, Serpent Scale, Serpent Trophy

πŸ“ Spawning

Serpents spawn in the Ocean biome:

  • Most commonly at night
  • More frequently during storms
  • Far from shoreline biomes

They are rarely encountered during calm daytime sailing.

βš”οΈ Behaviour

Serpents are aggressive naval enemies.

They:

  • Swim toward boats when detected.
  • Bite ships and players.
  • Circle vessels while attacking.
  • Can damage boats significantly over time.

If left unchecked, they can destroy smaller boats and leave players stranded at sea.

πŸ›  Combat Strategy

  • Use a strong bow to attack from range.
  • Harpoon the Serpent and drag it to shallow water for easier combat.
  • Avoid extended fights during storms.
  • Bring high-tier food for stamina management.
  • Sail with backup materials in case of boat damage.

Dragging a Serpent to shore increases loot rewards, particularly scales.

⛏ Weaknesses

Serpents:

  • Are vulnerable to ranged damage.
  • Can be controlled with the Abyssal Harpoon.
  • Are easier to kill in shallow water where they cannot dive freely.

Preparation and positioning are key to a successful hunt.

🎁 Drops

Item Use
Serpent Meat High-tier cooked food
Serpent Scale Crafting the Serpent Shield
Serpent Trophy Decoration

Serpent Meat is one of the best mid-to-late game food sources when cooked.

⚠ Threat Level

Serpents are dangerous because:

  • They attack boats directly.
  • They can destroy ships mid-voyage.
  • Encounters often occur far from land.
  • Storm conditions reduce visibility and control.

Unprepared sailors risk losing both their ship and inventory.
